It's hard not to dash off a bit more about the 28-point US peace plan (regardless of who actually wrote it, the Trump administration endorsed it and so we can refer to it as a US plan). With so much to say, this is going to be split across two posts.
Who's conceding?
In my first post about the plan, I described it as execrable, pointing to its demand for an election in Ukraine, its recognition of unoccupied territory as Russian, its promise not to enlarge NATO to any country, the proposed cap on the size of Ukraine's military, and the reintegration of Russia into the global economy. These all represent gains for Russia and could hardly be acceptable to Ukraine. In this post I wish to explore more critically whether a less one-sided deal could be acceptable to both parties.
