PEACE: HASTE MAKES WASTE

I've already given my two cents about the 28-point peace plan for Ukraine and those comments are not behind the paywall. The more I reflect on the 'plan', the more flagrant the injustices and gaping the flaws. European leaders – together with the Canadian and Japanese prime ministers – have given their initial collective response to the proposals on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg. Their statement has the ring of a school teacher marking homework: 'requires additional work'. They also politely point out that provisions relating to the EU and NATO require the consent of the members of those organisations.

As many have noted, the plan gives no consideration to how it might be implemented and the naivety or incompetence of the American administration is plain to see. Accordingly I am adding a few extra comments, for my own record more than anything else, though accessible to subscribers. The following includes some back-of-an-envelope calculations. And that is my hook, dare I say marketing pitch: subscribe and you get to read some rough and ready maths.
